BarCamp Kerala has completed its 7^th edition. BCK7 was conducted at Kristu Jyoti College, Kottayam. I’m so happy that BarCamp Kerala is having new venues and the reach of it is increasing day by day.

There some some issues like no Wifi connectivity and all. But the turnout of the event is great. I was amazed by seeing the attendees in the post-lunch session. All though the hall was relatively small, it was packed fully all time. A lot of new faces came up for this edition which is also an attraction.

As this was Christmas Edition, Ayruz Sponsored Christmas Cake and it was cut by out Fredrik , I’m sure Fredrik wont forget this experience.

At the end there was a brain storming discussion about Entrepreneurship. Everyone shared their experiences and views. The principal of MACFAST Engineering College was present for this discussion. He really got inspired by the discussion and all, he offered sponsoring BarCamp Kerala 8 at MACFAST. And the venue was decided with a great round of applause. I think this was the quickest venue fixing happened in the entire history of BarCamp Kerala.

What is a BarCamp?

BarCamp is an unconference. What it means is that people discuss ideas, prototypes, business plans or anything under the sun on which they want to discuss. It is a great place to network and learn about latest technologies, social issues, start-ups, etc.

Who can attend?

Anyone and everyone with high level of energy and enthusiasm are welcome.

I don’t know what to speak on, can I come?

Yes. Everyone need not be a speaker in BarCamp but the format is more of interactive discussions so doesn’t matter if you don’t have a topic in mind. Just come and you will find lots of opportunities to talk and interact.

Is technical expertise a prerequisite?

No. It generally helps if you have some knowledge but otherwise also, people explain most of the stuff in layman’s language.

I want to network, who can I expect to meet?

Technical geeks, existing & budding entrepreneurs, VCs, angels, etc

I want to discuss a topic, what do I do?

Register and put it up in the comments section. We will try and book you a slot and notify of the same. Otherwise, there is a lot of open space where you can discuss and share your ideas.

So can I talk about absolutely anything under the sun?

Even though the domain of topics is infinite, still to organize the BarCamp, there are some broad categories defined which are expected to serve the interests of maximum people. You are free to talk anything in those categories. If you strongly think any other category should be included, write to us.

How can I contribute?

If you are a blogger, then please do blog about BarCamp and spread the word. If you have some topics to speak on, do share them. If you not speaking, then brainstorm in the sessions.

What are the fees?

No, there are no fees for the BarCamp. However, you will need to buy a ticket worth Rs. 100 if you wish to attend the Pro-Show happening later in the evening.

BarCamp is basically just a platform to connect. It is an ad-hoc unconference born from the desire for people to share and learn in an open environment. The BarCamp gives you a chance word YOUR opinion, a platform to communicate, share, network, discuss, debate and show practicals/demos without the nervousness of receiving criticism. A live active school for people who want to learn from others’ mistakes as well as accomplishments. It is a platform to give ideas to form new platforms.

Anyone with something to contribute or with the desire to learn is welcome and invited to join. We get together and discuss/rant/brain-storm/share opinions about Web Technologies & trends, mobile, internet, hacking, blogging, education, health, retail and much more… anything and everything the technology that interests us.

It is NOT just another networking event nor it has the same bunch of people… the same sessions… the same talks… the same opinions. It is an amalgamation of individuals who like to participate and not be an audience. The criterion for attendance is just one – Be ready to contribute your thoughts, ideas, experiences, expressions, suggestions, viewpoints and awareness.
